Translation

Translation is one of the most fun (and sometimes difficult) things you can do. Genuinely good translations make a bigger difference than you might think.

It may well be a dying profession, and that saddens me a bit. AI has now become good enough for most purposes, if all you want is to make yourself understood. But just like “original” text produced by AI, such translations tend to sound very bland and robotic, and feel outright annoying to read.

Because texts shouldn’t just be heaps of words — they need a bit of personality, a bit of humanity to be readable. We may relatively soon be living in a world where computers are good enough at understanding history, context and linguistic nuance, but we’re not there yet.
